India’s polio eradication is a great public health achievement for India. But continued vaccination is important, health experts say, since the polio virus is still present in certain parts of the world. Routine Pulse Polio campaigns are important in ensuring community immunity and to stop the disease from resurfacing.

In her speech on 28 June, Dr. K. Suma Prasad Managing Director, Prasad Hospitals (gynecologist, obstetrician and infertility specialist) said, “It’s important to remember that all eligible children should receive the Pulse Polio drops during the National Immunization Day conducted by the Government, even if they have already received their routine vaccination doses, as this provides an extra boost to immunity and helps future generations be protected.”

With the tireless efforts of the healthcare professionals, the Telangana Government continues to hold a statewide Pulse Polio Immunization campaign with support from Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and volunteers making sure that nobody is left behind. Parents should go to their nearest Pulse Polio vaccination booth and join in all the campaigns.

The hospital reiterated once again the importance of vaccination as one of the most effective and safe methods of preventing several life-threatening diseases and urged parents to follow routine immunization schedules along with government-led Pulse Polio campaigns.
