In the early hours of Thursday, there was another low-intensity explosion heard close to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. According to reports, this was the third explosion to shake the area in a week.
According to reports, the explosion happened at 12.30 am.
Following the explosion of the homemade device, the Punjab Police apprehended one suspect.
Sources also reported two men and a woman were staying in an adjacent room at the time of the explosion. They were all being interrogated.
Police officers were seen in a video posted by the Press Trust of India near the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
On the evening of May 6, a bomb occurred on Heritage Street, close to the Golden Temple. The blast caused damage to some nearby glass building facades and injured one person.
On May 8, one more person was hurt in a second low-intensity explosion on the same street.
Iqbal Singh Lalpura, the head of the National Commission for Minorities, wrote to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about the recent low-intensity explosions on a historic street close to the Golden Temple and requested a time-bound probe into them.
After the NIA, an NSG team will investigate two low-intensity explosives in Amritsar.
The two bombs that occurred in the city within 30 hours are being investigated by the Punjab Police, according to DGP Gaurav Yadav, as an NSG team arrived in Amritsar on Tuesday.
On Monday, a team from the National Investigation Agency went there and examined the scene of the second explosion.
According to Punjab Police, no detonator or trigger from the scene that may have been used has been discovered.
“The Amritsar incident is being thoroughly investigated. We have not discovered a detonator or anything like. Our forensic team is looking into it,” said DGP Yadav.
“We are conducting thorough inspections. We will extensively examine whether there is any malicious intent, a connection to terrorism, or any personal motivation, he assured reporters in Ludhiana.
The DGP emphasized that the Punjab Police was looking into the two explosions and that they were working with all agencies, including the National Security Guard. He stated, “They (NSG) have expertise in blast investigation.
We want to learn the truth about what transpired with the help of all of these (agencies),” Yadav said.
The DGP had said that it seemed the device was housed in a container when he visited Amritsar on Monday. He said that it was constructed quite sloppily and produced without the use of shrapnel.
