<p>According to two people with firsthand knowledge of the situation, Google is set to remove the applications of ten Indian businesses, including several well-known matrimonial apps, due to a disagreement about service fee payments. This might lead to a confrontation with startup companies.</p>

<p>The issue revolves around the companies’ attempts to prevent Google from enforcing an in-app payment cost of 11% to 26% in India, after an order from antitrust regulators to remove a previous system that charged between 15% and 30%.</p>
<p>However, two court rulings in January and February—one by the Supreme Court—effectively gave Google the green light to impose the fee or delete applications without providing any remedy to entrepreneurs.</p>
<p>The Indian firms Matrimony.com, which operates the app BharatMatrimony, and Info Edge, which operates the app Jeevansathi, which is identical, have received complaints of Play Store violations from the Alphabet Inc. unit.</p>
<p>Executives from both firms told Reuters that they are analyzing the notification and will think about what to do next.</p>
<p>Following the Reuters article, Matrimony.com’s shares plunged as much as 2.7% before cutting losses, while Info Edge’s shares dipped 1.5%.</p>
<p>The creator of matrimonial.com, Murugavel Janakiraman, told Reuters that the measure “literally means all the top matrimony services will be deleted.”</p>
<p>According to Info Edge founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani, all outstanding Google bills have been paid on schedule, and the company complies with all regulations.</p>
<p>Google announced in a blog post that ten Indian businesses had decided to forgo paying for the “immense value they receive on Google Play” for a considerable amount of time. The businesses were not identified.</p>
<p>The business said on Friday that “no court or regulator has denied Google Play’s right to charge,” and that the Supreme Court “refused to interfere” with that right on February 9.</p>
<p>The Indian startup community, which has been opposing many of the US giant’s tactics for years, may get enraged by Google’s decision to remove its app.</p>
<p>The company, which maintains its innocence, is the market leader in India with 94% of phones running on its Android platform.</p>
<p>According to Google, the price covers developer tools and analytic services as well as investments in the Android mobile operating system and app store, guaranteeing free distribution.</p>
<p>It also said that just 3% of the more than 200,000 Indian developers who make use of the Google Play marketplace must pay any service fees.</p>
