Elon Musk refutes Drug Use Allegations Following WSJ Article on SpaceX Board “Concerns”

<p>Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has denied rumors that he uses illicit substances, claiming that three years of sporadic drug testing had shown “not even trace quantities” of alcohol or narcotics in his system.</p>

<p>The world’s wealthiest man responded forcefully to a revelation by a major US daily that said his drug usage worries colleagues who hold executive positions at his enterprises, according to Forbes.</p>
<p>NASA investigated Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, after he used marijuana on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast in 2018. NASA needed guarantees that SpaceX operated as a drug-free workplace in order to continue being the only government contractor handling astronaut transportation.</p>
<p>Musk has played down the event, saying he just had “one puff” and stating that he doesn’t like using illicit narcotics. He claimed to have had random drug tests for three years and to have no traces of alcohol or narcotics in his system. A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) story was refuted by Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, who claimed that Musk had never failed an exam.</p>
<p>Executives at SpaceX and Tesla were uneasy after the Wall Street Journal published a comprehensive description of Musk’s alleged drug usage on Saturday. According to the story, Musk’s drug usage has raised informal worries among Tesla board members, prompting conversations with his brother Kimbal Musk.</p>
<p>Musk is said to have used illicit substances with Steve Jurvetson, a board member of SpaceX, and participated in recreational ketamine usage with Kimbal. The Journal also noted Linda Johnson Rice’s resignation from Tesla in 2019, which was purportedly brought on by Musk’s drug use and “erratic behavior.”</p>
